How small lapses can lead to big consequences

Have you ever noticed how small lapses in consistency can have big consequences?

This morning, while out on the moors with my Springer Spaniel, something in the bracken caught her attention.
She stopped and I carried on. I blew my whistle which is a signal to come to heel immediately. No response. I called again, still nothing.. By the third call, she finally returned.

It hit me: consistency matters. She’s 3 years old, had intense training in her first year, less in her second and only occasional reinforcement now. And just like that, her recall weakened.

So what’s does this have to do with team leadership, I hear you ask?

🔑 Consistency is key: Just as my dog’s responsiveness faded without regular reinforcement, your team needs consistent guidance and support to stay focused and motivated.

🚫 Avoid complacency: Regular check-ins and reinforcement are essential. Without it, even skilled team members can lose their edge

🌟 Continuous recognition: Recognising and rewarding efforts consistently helps maintain high performance and morale.

🛠️ Habit formation: Effective habits are built through consistent practice. One time training isn’t enough for lasting results.

📈 Ongoing investment: Continuous investment in your team’s growth leads to sustained success.

It’s back to training for M and me 🐾 What’s one way you’ve reinforced positive habits in your team this week?
