How a Caricature Taught Me a Valuable Leadership Lesson

How a Caricature Taught Me a Valuable Leadership Lesson

I was walking past a caricature artist.

On a whim, I stopped and decided to sit for a portrait.

As I watched him sketch, I wondered how he would capture me:
Would he exaggerate my smile?
My wrinkles?
My furrowed brow?
My nose?

What would he see that I might not?

When the sketch was finished

It was me. And yet, not me.

Playful. Imperfect. Full of character.

It reminded me of something crucial.

How we see ourselves isn’t always how others see us.

In leadership, and in life, it’s easy to focus on flaws or what we think we lack.

But sometimes, seeing ourselves through someone else’s eyes can reveal strengths we’ve overlooked.

What if we embraced those exaggerated features?

Our quirks, imperfections..are the things that makes us unique

Leadership isn’t about being flawless. It’s about being authentic.

Have you ever had an experience that changed how you see yourself?

What did it reveal about your strengths or blind spots?

Have you ever had a caricature drawn of yourself?
