Are you a leader of teams of teams?
You will know firsthand that navigating the complexities of leading multiple teams toward common shared goals is no easy feat.
This week, I’m diving into common challenges that I have observed when working with teams and which are echoed by senior leaders in individual coaching sessions. Alongside, am sharing some practical tips to overcome them.
One significant challenge is Alignment, often presenting as:
· Misaligned goals: Teams pursuing different objectives, which can lead to conflicting priorities and inefficiencies.
· Redundant work: Duplication of efforts across teams due to lack of coordination, wasting valuable resources.
· Confusion about direction: Uncertainty among team members regarding how their work contributes to broader organisational goals, which can impact morale and productivity.
🎯Keeping all teams aligned can be challenging. How do you ensure every team member sees the bigger picture and understands their role?
3 practical tips to address this challenge:
💡Set clear objectives: Define and communicate clear, aligned goals across all teams. Make sure everyone understands their role in achieving these objectives.
💡Regular check-ins: Hold weekly or bi-weekly alignment meetings where teams can discuss progress, challenges, and adjustments needed. Encourage open dialogue to address any discrepancies promptly and ensure everyone is on the same page.
💡Collaborative tools: Utilise platforms like Slack, Microsoft Teams, or Google Workspace not only for communication but also for project management. Assign tasks, track progress, and set deadlines transparently. Leverage features like shared calendars and document collaboration to streamline workflows and enhance accountability.
