Daily interactions with our teams can sometimes cause us to overlook those subtle signs that gradually accumulate.

❌ Behavioural: withdrawal or reduced participation
❌ Performance: decrease in work quality and productivity
❌ Enthusiasm: visible disinterest in team activities and meetings

3. Is their role still aligned with their skills and interests?

Some actionable steps to address these signs of disengagement

💡 Work related stress:

­ – Engage in regular 1:1s to discuss workload, deadlines, challenges…
­ – Review current projects and deadlines
­ – Discuss workload distribution and potential adjustments
­ – Offer support in prioritising tasks or delegating responsibilities

💡 Personal Issues:

– Create a safe space for sharing personal challenges
– Ask open ended questions about well-being and feelings
– Listen more than you speak and with empathy and without judgment.
– Offer access to mental health support and employee assistance programs

💡Role misalignment:

– Regularly revisit and work with the team member to set goals that are meaningful and align with their skills, interests, career aspirations
– Review their current responsibilities and projects
